My name is Sevgi Corapci. I
lived in Australia for 26 years. I graduated from the Podiatry school at
the Sydney Institute of Technology where I graduated as a Podiatrist.
A Podiatrist is a health professional who deals with the prevention,
diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the feet and lower limbs.
After graduating in 1986 I worked in hospitals, health centres, nursing
homes and have run my own practice both in Australia and Turkey.
The conditions podiatrists treat include those resulting from bone and
joint disorders such as ARTHRITIS as well as disorders affecting the foot
due to circulatory and neurological diseases such as DƯABETES. Podiatrists
are also able to diagnose and treat any complications of the above which
affect the lower limb, including skin and nail disorders, corns and
callouses and ingrowing toenails.
Foot injuries and
infections gained through sport or other activities are also diagnosed and
treated by podiatrists.
I am the only Podiatrist
in Turkey as there is no training available .
My main desire is to bring
the occupation of Podiatry to Turkey. Millions of people are treated for
foot problems by uneducated people with wrong , unsterile instruments thus
causing unwanted results.
Ưn a time where Turkey is
trying to enter the European Union I feel that such an important occupation
like Podiatry needs to be introduced into the Health Care System.
Any assistance that may be
given regarding this topic will be greatly appreciated.
