Orthotics

With only one pair of feet to last us a lifetime it's important that we look after them.Unfortunately, most people don't give their feet much consideration....that is until they start to hurt.
There can be a number of problems that lead to foot pain, but often pain can be due to faulty alignment of the bones of the feet and legs, combined with muscle function difficulties.

WHAT IS BIOMECHANICS?

Biomechanics is the study of the mechenical and physical laws which determine the way our body moves and functions.
Podiatrists-foot health professionals- are particularly ,interested in the biomechanics of the foot and leg and its relationship to the development of painful conditions which affect not only the foot but also the ankles, hips and even the back.
The good news is that there is something that can be done for these problems, with treatment often involving the prescription of orthoses.

WHAT ARE ORTHOSES?

Orthoses are shoe inserts which assist in realigning foot imbalances.

HOW DO THEY WORK?

The orthotic device fits inside your shoe and helps redirect the feet into a more correct position and assists in reducing mechanical problems.Orthoses also help redistribute the pressure more evenly under your feet, reducing pressure points.

HOW ARE THEY MADE?

The first and most important step is to see a podiastrist who will give you a biomechanical examination. Joint movement is measured, muscle function and walking patterns are observed.

HOW LONG WILL I NEED TO WEAR MY ORTHOSES?
There is no definitive answer to this question. This is because orthoses correct rather than cure your foot problems in the same way that prescription glasses do not cure vision problems.
